Ernst Bergmann, The 25 Theses of the German Religion. Thesis 1
Thesis 1
Germanic people have their own religion, which springs vividly from their racially-bound observations, feelings and thoughts. We call it the German-ethnic religion and understand it as our native and racially-correct Native Germanic Faith (ed: henceforth, Asatru).
What is a correct religion?
A religion is correct and true to its kind if it has grown out of the blood and soil and ancestral heritage of a people without foreign ingredients and influences and consequently reflects the soul style of this people in a pure and unadulterated way. A non-genuine or foreign religion is a foreign doctrine imposed on a people during a certain period of its development, in the creation of which this people did not participate and the characteristics of which are not inwardly adapted to it and can never be completely adapted to it.
Such a foreign religion for the Germans is Christianity, which was introduced into Germania 1200 years ago by the Saxon butcher Charlemagne with fire and sword, and is still considered a state-recognized religion in Germany today. This religion is especially alien to the German nature, because it is a creation of predominantly Oriental spirit and is based on the sacral (holy) scripture of the Jews of old and new covenant. It contradicts in almost all points the Germanic sense of morality and ethics.
Through this foreign religion the still young Germanic soul has been deprived of the purity, originality, greatness and unity of its development. In the struggle against the never completely successful inner appropration and processing of the foreign spiritual goods, it has consumed its best forces and thereby missed the solution of its great patriotic duties and tasks for centuries. The entire German history of the last 1000 years, with its numerous political upheavals, abuses and aberrations, its endless religious wars, its struggle against Rome and against dependence on this foreign religious cultural center, its consequently never achieved inner unity as a nation, is the sad result of the suppression and destruction of the rightful German homeland faith, on the basis of which the various Germanic tribes in pre -Christian times had united their souls.
And this unique and tragic fate of not being able to develop their religious native culture freely and undisturbed hit just the leading people of the Nordic mankind, which was called to create the modern culture. Only in the paralyzing struggle against the medieval powers of the Christian worldview, which were hostile to nature and reality, could the Germanic people, the "educated people of the new humanity," as Fichte called it, fulfill its high tasks in the cultural field. In the political sphere they remained unfulfilled. The bastardization with an alien spiritual culture must be called the cause of the destruction of the uniform basis of life of the nation, which is always a religious one.
If we today, at the end of a thousand-year history of internal disruption and external impotence, have inherited from the original Germanic soil of the people only a field of ruins, if we look back on an unparalleled history of suffering and catastrophe, we owe this to the destruction of German religious freedom by the Frankish murderer Charlemagne, who destroyed the Germanic sanctuaries and for this was called "The Great" until recently by a deluded nation.
Editors Notes: One of the most common criticisms of Asatru, and there are many, is that we are making up a religion out of whole cloth - simply inventing a 20th Century New Age variant. The critical counter to this idea is the fact that Christianity has a start date - 0 A.D. Did Germanic people exist before this time? Definitively, yes. Did they have some sort of mythology and religion, even if we imperfectly understand it today? Definitively, yes. The flag Bergmann plants here is that Native Germanic Faith can only exist as a product of Germanic people. The further logical conclusion is that Germanic people will ALWAYS move towards and follow this faith, and even under conditions of complete historical, linguistic and cultural isolation, we would recreate it. This is the essence, the heart and soul, of Jung's more well known essay "Wotan". Now following this logic one further one could state that it doesn't matter if White people are christian, atheist, muslim, whatever. To an extent this is true, but having your religion not tailored to your race leads to foundational cracks in your civilization as the religious experience itself transcends time. For example, Native Germanic Faith would teach that only Germanic people can really understand and interact with each other fully, whereas christianity teaches that everyone is universally equal. This universal belief has caused untold amounts of problems. Non-white people refer to the christian conversion process as "white supremacy" or "colonialism", and they are largely correct. These ideas were mistakes and came out of universalist christianity.
The other criticism of this idea, leveled by silly British christians of that time, is that Germans are trying to be special in regards to other European peoples, superior to the British or the French or the Scandinavians. This criticism is ridiculous; all writing on Native Germanic Faith includes all the people of Northern Europe, especially blue-eyed, blonde haired, light-skinned milk drinkers, which ranged from 50% to 100% of the Northern European populations of Ireland, Scotland, England, Iceland, France, Scandinavia, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Baltics, Russia, northern Italy, Spain, etc. We can haplogroup-splice until the end of time, but the controversial fact is that "Asatru" is indeed a Nordic religion. Some people that historically weren't characterized as Nordic, actually certainly are such as Ukrainians, Balts, Russians and Finns. The genetic data and the folklore data is very clear on this. Genetically and behaviorally British vs. German is a distinction without a difference.
