Ernst Bergmann: Thesis 6
godless propaganda and religious decomposition.
We orthodox Asatru stand on the solid ground of a positive religion.
What is religious decomposition?
Religious decomposition was part of the mechanical-materialist spirit of the 2nd half of the
19th century, in which an anti-religious direction spread. Asatru today rejects Christianity
as a foreign religion, but only in order to replace it with genuine Germanic piety and a
knowledge of the divine that is appropriate to our race. It is therefore anything
but a substitution religion.
Christianity and religion are not one thing, as many still believe today. On the contrary:
Christianity and religion now contradict each other. And many Christians are religious
not because of their Christianity, but in spite of it. For Christianity contains numerous
worldview remnants of past ages that stand in the way of the development of genuine
and lively religiosity and contemporary piety. Today, many devout people flee the
Christian church not only because it speaks of Zion and Salem, David's son and
Abraham's seed, but above all because they often no longer find there what they
understand by religion. Out of religion they reject Christianity. For in a holy place
they do not want to see and experience anything that disturbs and impairs the pure
mood of their minds as a result of its contradictions with contemporary life. (ed.:, e.g.,
transgender priests, gay couples or racial strangers).
of religious thought, whoever wants to deprive elements that subvert religion of any
possibility of spreading, should resolutely oppose the equation of Christianity and
religion and, in general, the preservation of a form of religion which, as things stand
today, virtually calls into question all religious thought.
The religion-destroying propaganda of the godless could never have spread
so widely among our people had it not been for the unfortunate dogma that Religion
is not possible in any other way than in the Christian form. (ed.: i.e., "new atheism").
Religion is present in every human soul, and non-Christians can be the most genuine
God-seekers, because they think independently. "Not he has religion who believes
in a holy scripture, but he who has no need of one and could well make one himself "
(Schleiermacher).
and salvation is superstition, and not religion. The biologically educated man of today
faces and experiences the problems of his existence, the religious as well as the moral
ones, in a completely different way than where the primitive Christian or even the medieval
man searched for and found them. Our religion lies in the cosmos, in the world of nature and
reality, in blood and soil, people and homeland, nation and fatherland, all areas of events
which are rich enough in the valuable content of the wonderful and eternal to let the whole
of the most basic religious feelings, the feeling of oneness with the divine, the feeling
of holiness and the feeling of blessedness, spring up in our hearts and spread religious
consecration over our existence.
our religion is that which is growing alive in us today, the great, holy, ardent longing
to wipe out 1000 years of German suffering and to make amends for the sins the
Judeo-Christian foreign religion has committed against the Germanic soul.
renaming its forms, replacing God with Odin and Jesus with Thor, we're saying Asatru reaffirms our ancient religious feelings which would include love of nature and nobility of man. This is probably why the "9 Noble Virtues" in Asatru don't get much attention, because they seem like a substitute for the 10 commandments. We don't need to read virtues, we need to live them, and indeed would do so because of our genetic background, even in the absence of their teaching. Words are wind, deeds are iron.
