Old Nordic Poetry in the School: Introduction

Introduction     This publication aims to use a number of individual examples to show how Old Norse poetry can be incorporated and evaluated in schools. The author has two purposes in mind: on the one hand, the encounter with the Sagas should give pupils a lively picture of the being, essence, nature and attitude of our Germanic ancestors; and on the other hand, in this encounter the great, defensive, and exemplary nature of that humanity should become an inalienable experience.
