  How the Robin got its Red Breast a German Fairy Tale      Hundreds of years ago when our ancestors still lived freely in their forests and Odin's old oak still adorned the holy Thing, lived a young, free Teuton named Dankwart. His flashing blue eyes had spotted much hidden and shy game, and many an enemy could sing a song about his sinewy fists. But the most beautiful thing about him was his pure, childlike disposition. When he returned from the hunt, he would sit in front of the door of his hut, which was deep in the forest, and watch the birds. They soon knew him, came over trustingly and romped about at his feet. His favorite, however, was the small, gray singer who had not yet had a name.
